A Step in The Right Direction

Yesterday myself, my wife Heather and Mike Kesthely (nutrition guru) went to the Lethbridge College to present the ideas and methodologies of CrossFit to the Criminal Justice Program students. I haven't had that much fun doing a presentation in a long time. We worked well as a team and I believe we were able to relay a ton of information in a short period of time, as well as a conquest/CrossFit style butt-whooping! The day felt like a big success. Thanks for your help Mike and Heather.
Stacia Nelson, our contact at the college, set the stage for us by providing us with this opportunity and giving us a wonderful introduction. Stacia works hard at the college to promote fitness through a variety of mediums and provides information for people to make their own choices about their path to fitness rather than pushing them down any particular path. Truly an excellent quality to have in an instructor of health and fitness. She runs a high level exercise science program that if you are interested in a career in exercise, fitness or health would be a great starting point for you. Thanks Stacia we are grateful for your assistance in setting this up and having us in.
As for a step in the right direction, I believe that many of the students who were involved will be taking a step in the direction of improving their health and fitness. When it comes to a job that is law enforcement related poor fitness could be the difference between life and death.

Today, I want to spend just a brief moment talking about the ability to hit a PR/PB (Personal Record/Personal Best). Many times when we approach the bar, the start line...the task we are challenging ourselves with, we have the ability within us to exceed our expectation and past performances. The hurdle is always, and will always be, doubt and the shadow of doubt. Very rarely, unless you are involved in elite athletics, does the issue of PB become a matter of technique. The moment doubt creeps into our mind is the moment we have lost the ability to gain that PB. Approach every task as if you are a champion. Lock out doubt and focus nothing more than on success and your ability to succeed. The saying "The mind is a powerful thing to waste" could not be more true when it comes to PB's. It will be your mind that sends the signals/impulses to your muscles and tells them what to do and dictates their performance. If doubt of your success is in your mind no matter how much you focus that doubt will shine through and hamper performance. Make sure you send the strongest signal possible by determining the outcome before you begin. Success, success, success, PB!
